Weston Memorial Junior Public School has been proudly serving families in the town of Weston since 1919. Named in honour of students from the old Weston Public School who gave their lives during World War I, the school combines the charm of yesterday with today's state of the art technology and Internet access in each classroom. Our students, parents, teachers and support staff, are united in their commitment to maintain our high standards. We strive for a balanced program of academics, physical activity and the arts. We look forward to celebrating 100 Years in 2019-2020!
Continuous School Improvement
We have developed our School Improvement Plans based on 3 FOCI: Achievement (Math), Equity and Well-Being. Weston Memorial students have traditionally done well on system and provincial testing because of the partnership that exists between supportive parents and dedicated staff members. Our successful teaching strategies have the support of parents who understand the importance of encouraging and working with their children at home.

More Information about Weston Memorial Junior Public School
Literacy
Strong emphasis is placed on teaching our students to be critical thinkers by listening and speaking, reading and writing, viewing and representing. Our students are learning a variety of reading and writing strategies, including activating prior knowledge, previewing text features, and ways to apply what they learn to make meaning of the text.
Numeracy
Strong emphasis is placed on thinking critically by developing mathematical understanding, learning important facts, strategies and procedures, developing the ability to apply, justifying and communicate their thinking and ideas clearly. We are creating a climate that helps all students develop their confidence to solve math problems using the necessary tools.
Equity
We continue to ensure there is consistent, formal, and planned communication between home and school to ensure students' needs are met and students are well-prepared for transitions between grade panels and schools. With a focus on student voice and conditions for learning, we are helping our students to develop confidence in their abilities and advocate for their needs.
Well-Being
At Weston Memorial, all students, parents and staff work together to build an inclusive learning environment that is safe, respectful, orderly and purposeful. We hold monthly Character Education assemblies to celebrate the hard work of our students. Families are invited to join us! Students are being taught how to self-regulate and advocate for their needs.

What Sets Us Apart
Weston Memorial JPS has always been a strong supporter of early learning and engaging all of our learners to ensure there is a culture of inquiry and play-based learning in our classrooms in a variety of intentional ways. We have a very active and supportive School Advisory Council and parent community. Our home and school partnership is very strong and important to us! We created a long-range, ECO Schools plan to build on our outdoor classroom, enhance our outdoor play areas for all students, focus on litterless lunches, recycling and composting, and working together to be mindful and respectful of our planet Earth! We recently had twelve native trees planted in our junior yard and some planted in our primary (west) yard. Thanks to a Live Green Toronto Community Grant and TDSB funding, we were able to revitalize our yard and outdoor classroom space!
