Superbrain Yoga
Lynngate is the first TDSB school to engage in Superbrain Yoga. SBY is combined with the basic understanding of how the body’s energy works, how the brain functions, and how the body utilizes its fuel. SBY is an effective technique designed to specifically optimize brain wellness to improve mental performance and regulate emotions by energizing the brain to stimulate the production of Alpha Brain Waves which produce a synchronization of the right and left hemispheres of the brain, creating the brain’s most optimal state for healthy, conscious learning. Optimum results occur when practised consistently: Lynngators do SBY twice a day.
What Sets Us Apart
Lynngate is one of TDSB's Schools on the Move. Our focus in year one is to increase physical activity through intramural sports and activities at lunch and after school. Our second focus is to encourage our grade 5 and 6 students to develop leadership skills as peer leaders during recess activities. To complement our initiatives in Schools on the Move, we also offer a Nutritional Snack Program to grades 1 to 6 every morning. This program is supported by the Toronto Foundation for Student Success and implemented by parent/student volunteers. Lynngate is also one of the schools identified by the Ontario Tennis Association to receive complimentary Cardio and Progressive Tennis Lessons as part of our Physical Education Program. Students are encouraged to join a community tennis club such as L'Amoureaux so that tennis fitness can become a leisure skill for life.
Parent and Community Engagement
We have a good relationship with the YMCA Daycare through support of programs and supervision of children. We participate annually in the Terry Fox Run and the Christmas Food Drive for Agincourt Community Services. Our students visit the Agincourt Public Library. We host student teachers from Medaille College, OISE/UofT , Seneca College and the Zurich University of Teacher Education. We have an active School Advisory Council with parents who work as partners in education. Parent and community volunteers assist with classroom activities, excursions, sport competitions, the library, Nutritional Snack Program and special events. Every January, parents are invited to participate in our "Snuggle Up and Read" as part of our Family Literacy Day. Each year we plan and invite our parents and students to a special Family Night in either Literacy, Math or Fitness.
