Highland Heights Jr. Public School serves Kindergarten to Grade 6 students in the Birchmount and Finch area of Scarborough. Our parents/guardians are an integral part of the Highland Heights community. We set high standards for our students and we work together to meet these high standards.
Restorative Practices
In September 2012, we began implementing restorative practices as a school-wide approach to promoting a positive school climate. The premise of restorative practices is that children are happier, more cooperative and productive, and more likely to make positive changes when adults help them to take personal responsibility for their actions. Restorative practices fosters dialogue to resolve conflict. Children who feel valued and connected at school are more likely to feel engaged and less likely to act out inappropriately.

Teachers can assist students in selecting activities. We are proud to offer a variety of extra-curricular activities which includes sports, crafts, drama, arts and philanthropic activities.
Parenting Centre
Our Parenting and Family Literacy Centre is for parents and their children, from newborns to six years. The Centre helps to prepare children for school and encourage families to be a part of their children's learning. Parents with their children are invited to come to the centre at any time during the scheduled hours and no pre-registration is required.
Parental Involvement
We recognize parents as the first educators of all children. We know that, if parents and teachers communicate well and share their expertise and knowledge, children will always benefit. We encourage parents to become as involved in school life as they can. A number of parents help within the school during the day and we welcome and appreciate their contributions.

We are proud to be a part of the TDSB Model Schools for Inner Cities (MSIC) initiative. MSIC is designed to meet the needs of students and families who face socio-economic challenges that affect student achievement. This initiative provides students with the tools, resources and opportunities they need to participate fully and equally in school and their communities.
The 5 components of MSIC are:
1) Innovation in teaching/learning practice
2) Support services to meet the social, emotional and physical well-being of students
3) School as the heart of the community
4) Research, review and evaluation of students and programs
5) Commitment to share successful practices
Parent and Community Engagement
The development of strong, caring relationships enhances learning. We believe that building a strong relationship between home and school is a crucial factor in your child's success. Our Parenting and Family Literacy Centre is open four days a week. We invite you to join over 100 families where your child will enjoy structured learning activities while you learn how to support your child's literacy and numeracy development. The School Advisory Council meetings provide an excellent opportunity for you to meet other parents and have a real voice in the development of the school.
Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They are community-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety of opportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices.
Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice, access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financial stability.
