Peace Through Understanding
Lester B. Pearson C.I. is a full service school with students representing 56 different countries, speaking 42 languages, and practicing 17 different religions. We promote appreciation of diversity as inspired by our motto, "Peace through Understanding", taken from the 1957 Nobel Peace Prize speech by our former Prime Minister, Lester B. Pearson. We pride ourselves in offering a full range of programs to students of all levels as well as an extensive co-curricular program which provides many opportunities for student leadership and personal growth. Our school's specialization in Health & Wellness and Construction and Design links various curriculum areas to sector specific Specialized High Skills Major.
Specialist High Skills Major - Health and Wellness
The Health and Wellness Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) allows students to acquire technical knowledge and skills that will assist them in entering a future career in medicine, health or education. Pearson students will receive recognition on their high school diploma and a set of industry-recognized certification. This program is recognized by colleges, universities, and employers, giving our students a head start in life.
What Sets Us Apart
Pearson reaches the whole student. A strong academic program is enhanced by equally strong co-curriculars. Students can participate in athletics, leadership development, and interest clubs. We offer a wide range of options to explore: Arts, Technology, Business, Social Sciences, Physical Education, etc. Reaching the whole student means that we are constantly looking for ways to support and meet student needs and interests. Our Co-operative Education program includes both two and four credit programs. We have partnerships with colleges to offer post secondary credits. Our Specialist High Skills Major in Health & Wellness is a program unique to the Northeast region of the TDSB.
Parent and Community Engagement
Pearson has been selected to become a Full Service school, welcoming community groups to use this facility in non-school hours. Pearson has fostered partnerships and connections with community organizations and businesses such as the Malvern Family Resource Centre, YMCA Employer Services, Newcomer Youth Services, Taibu Community Health, and the Malvern Public Library. We are assisted by a strong School Advisory Council that meets each month. The focus of these meetings are to improve communication between parents and the school community. Parents are eager to work together to fundraise for student scholarships. Our own teachers raise funds as well for the same purpose. We acknowledge our student success with our Commencement Ceremonies, Recognition Assemblies and Student of the Month awards during Staff Meetings.
