Heather Heights Junior Public School first opened its doors to the community in 1959. The school proudly serves a population of approximately 200 students in full day Kindergarten to Grade 6. Heather Heights also is the home of the Ben Heppner Vocal Music Academy, an alternative elementary school setting for students in grades 4 - 8 as well as an alternative program for secondary students. We proudly support learners from both within and outside our borders.

Eco Club
Supporting the environment needs to be everyone's business! At Heather Heights and the VMA, we have a committed and active group of students who are challenging the community to make better environmental choices every day. From recycling audits to banning plastic spoons in our snack program and the sale of water bottles at school events, their impact is real!
Arts and Technology
We are focusing on the arts and technology at Heather Heights and the VMA through both curricular and extracurricular activities. In addition to integrating the arts into our curriculum work, our students have clubs like Robotics, choir, craft club, art club and the opportunities to perform in musicals throughout the school year.
Mental Health and Wellness
As a community, we actively work to support the mental health and wellness of our students. Two new initiatives this year include Peaceful Recess, where students engage in mindfulness activities over the lunch hour. Quiet Recess allows students to take a break from what could be an overstimulating recess outside to an indoor recess spent playing games with peers.
School Council
We are lucky to have a strong and dedicated School Council who meet regularly to discuss school issues, give feedback on school policies, and support the school through fundraising initiatives.

What Sets Us Apart
Heather Heights P.S. is a community school that strongly believes in serving all learners from within our immediate area and from within the TDSB. We teach our students about having compassion and empathy for others and about always extending a helping hand. We serve a culturally mixed and socially diverse community of students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. The school has an amazing music and arts programme for our students. We provide a curriculum that supports art based learning including music, instrumental band, choral singing, drama, dance and visual arts. We also integrate technology throughout the curriculum through the use of classroom computers, a computer lab and Promethean boards. At Heather Heights, we believe in, and strongly support, partnerships and active involvement between the home and school to support our students and families. At Heather Heights, students, parents and staff work together and we learn together!
Parent and Community Engagement
At Heather Heights, we strongly believe that education is a partnership involving staff, students, parents and families and all members of the local community. We have an active School Council who meet monthly and who are committed to helping strengthen our school programmes through various school events and fundraising activities. As a school community, we support the West Hill Community Centre by collecting food donations from our families every December. We also support the annual Terry Fox Run, and this year our staff and students participated in the Jump Rope for Heart fundraising event. Heather Heights has a small, but dedicated parent group who volunteer their time by accompanying classes on excursion trips, helping teachers in the classroom and helping with the daily Snack Programme.
Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They are community-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety of opportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices.
Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice, access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financial stability.
