North Bridlewood Junior Public School is a multicultural school located at the north end of the Bridlewood Community on Collingsbrook Blvd. Built in 1966, North Bridlewood Junior Public School was one of the first open-plan concept schools of TDSB. We are a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 school with an ongoing tradition of personal excellence and co-curricular involvement. The school serves a diverse population of over 230 students representing more than 20 different language/cultural groups.

Student Engagement

We have an ongoing commitment to co-curricular activities which allows each student to participate and develop a sense of belonging and responsibility. We have high expectations regarding personal responsibility, academic achievement, goal setting and behaviour. Our students rise to these expectations and achieve great results. In recent years, staff have worked hard to provide students with a variety of clubs that cater to many varying interests. We have clubs that focus on the Arts, athletics, academics, and technology. North Bridlewood is a place where all students experience success.

Interesting Feature

ECO Schools Program

North Bridlewood achieved silver status as an ECO School in our most recent years of involvement in this initiative and are very proud of this achievement. We continue to achieve Silver, however, our fundamental goal is to reach Gold. Our enthusiastic and committed ECO team is focused on recycling, turning off lights, litterless lunches and using green bins. This year, we have engaged in the "Milk Bag" program which encourages students to bring in milk bags, that can be used to create mats for children around the world.

Literacy Instruction

We are providing Comprehensive Literacy programs and focus on higher order thinking skills. Focused Literacy blocks of instruction is provided for all students each day. Book bags for at home reading, guided reading, writer's workshop and reading buddies are integral components of our literacy program. 

Numeracy Instruction

Direct instruction, real life experiences, work with manipulative materials and technology underscore our mathematics program. We are committed to developing higher order thinking in Mathematics. We've implemented a school-wide plan, to ensure that all students learn similar math skills at the same time, which enhances co-teaching and learning.

Character Education

At North Bridlewood, we have a school-wide focus on respect. The values of respect, responsibility, empathy, kindness & caring, teamwork, fairness, honesty, co-operation, integrity and perseverance are integrated into the curriculum in all classrooms in our school. Monthly assemblies recognize students who consistently demonstrate these qualities. 

Communication with Parents

The use of agendas by our students is an important tool to communicate with parents and to allow students an opportunity to take responsibility for their own learning. We will continue to strengthen the links between the school, home and community through classroom newsletters, student agendas, and Parent Council meetings and the Principal's weekly newsletter.

Student Life - Where You Belong

The students at North Bridlewood have the opportunity to participate in a variety of co-curricular activities. These activities give the students an opportunity to develop valuable teamwork skills. Some of the activities include the following:

Athletics: Basketball, Cross Country, Slo-Pitch, Soccer, Track and Field, Floor Hockey, Badminton and Volleyball

Clubs: Arts and Crafts, Gardening, Library Helpers, Silver Birch Book Club, Scrabble Club, Eco Club, Performing Arts Club and Gardening Club

Competitions: Speech Arts and various athletic tournaments

Leadership: Office Helpers, Student Announcers and Library Helpers, Technology Assistants.

What Sets Us Apart

At North Bridlewood, we have developed a variety of ongoing partnerships. Some examples are as follows:

- Community volunteers and co-operative education students from the local collegiate regularly provide assistance and support to students within the classroom setting

- We have student teachers from various faculties of education and colleges completing their training in our classrooms

- Our Metro Police and Fire Department Liaison Officers provide safety presentations to North Bridlewood students

- Our classes visit community facilities such as the Public Library, Roy Thompson Hall, the Science Centre and local stores

- We have supported the following charities: Canadian Cancer Society, Society of Canada, UNICEF, Red Cross and Agincourt Community Services, Free the Children

- Many classes participate in Scholastic Book Clubs STEM

- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics This school year, we have begun to implement a STEM focus throughout the varying grades, in partnership with our teacher-librarian. 

Parent and Community Engagement

Our School Council makes a vital contribution to the life of the school as volunteers and fundraisers. The School Council has sponsored the following activities: , Dance-a-thons, monthly pizza lunches, school-wide performances, and Scientists in the School for every class. They also work very hard to raise money to support the grade 6 graduation and other initiatives within the school, such as new team jerseys and the advancement of technology in school. We are very fortunate to have parent volunteers who assist in classrooms and support a variety of school activities and programs. We always encourage parents to get involved in any way that they can.
