The School of Experiential Education (SEE School) is located near Islington and Dixon. We support students at-risk in Grades 9-12. We offer small class sizes, a caring environment, and special education/mental health supports to students with low or no credits (or those who are struggling to engage with or finish their studies). *NEW* Most of our courses are now offered at the APPLIED and WORKPLACE level. We support students who are struggling academically, with social/emotional or school-engagement issues, challenges with regulation, and who can engage positively and safely in a caring community to earn their high school diploma.
SEE School Students Benefit From:
• Weekly staff discussions about each student to support student success
• A friendly low-stress environment and culture of individual responsibility and support
• Excellent working relationships with teachers
• A Student Lounge Area
• A well-equipped computer lab (new machines, headphones for voice-to-text, IXL.com English and Math support)
Interesting Feature
Community Supports
Every Friday afternoon at SEE we meet together as a community to raise current issues and talk about the things that are important to our students. We might shoot some hoops, gather in the Art room, or grab a snack together in our kitchen. This is an important time to re-connect, share our stories, and end the week on a positive note. We want to hear about our students lives, what supports they need, what sorts of mentorship and coaching they want, and what directions we can help them grow in!
More Information about School of Experiential Education
Child and Youth Worker
Our new Child and Youth Worker is here to provide social/emotional support for all of our students. Our CYW focuses on behavioural, social and emotional development with attention to communication, personal management and social skills. We can help with academics, housing, legal issues, peer concerns, family problems, and many other issues.
Nutrition Program
Every school day staff and students prepare and serve lunch to the school community. Lunch is free for all students. Students learn essential cooking skills, nutrition, food handling and preparation, and make a meaningful contribution to the school community.
Progress Meetings
Before each reporting period, students attend a progress meeting with all their teachers to discuss strategies and gain reflections on how they are doing in their courses. Students tell us that they appreciate the experience of negotiating their own meeting, and gain personal experience which later serves them well when encountering people in positions of authority.
Experiential Learning
We do not have a CO-OP program at this time, but we can partner with the Thistletown CI Continuous Intake Co-op Program to help students obtain a placement. We do have many students in the Dual Credit Program! Students at SEE can attend local Colleges to earn both high school and college credits in Grades 11 and 12.

Student Life - Where You Belong
SEE maintains a vibrant, inclusive student community. We want you to be yourself here. This also means that your responsibilities as a community member include helping to maintain a safe and welcoming atmosphere that celebrates cultural, ethnic, religious, and sexual diversity. We welcome students who are working on re-engaging with school, or who have had life events or challenges (for example: illness, engagement with the legal system, anxiety or mental health challenges, academic issues...).
What Sets Us Apart
SEE School represents a diverse range of students from across the city of Toronto. Students who are dissatisfied, underachieving or are simply not feeling engaged in their current school would be attracted to the many features and the structure of our program at SEE. Typically, we enroll a significant number of students who want more input into their own education and are interested in developing skill sets that will prepare them for College or the Workplace. We have a unique schedule at SEE School. We offer two semesters per year (September to January, and January/February to June), and students can take four courses per semester. Classes are 40 minutes long in the morning, and 35 minutes long in the afternoon, with five minute breaks in between each class.
Parent and Community Engagement
The community comes to SEE in the form of guest speakers and student-driven activities. Parents and Guardians are invited to attend "Meet the Teacher" nights once each semester. We send regular mailings home with updates, and "All-Call" messages are often made to let families know about important dates and events. Two phone calls per day are made from our computer system to Parents/Guardians to let them know if their daughter/son is not in class. Parents are very welcome to keep in touch with our Curriculum Leader and teachers to discuss the unique needs of their son/daughter in our Alternative school setting.
