Daystrom Public School is located in the Finch Avenue and Weston Road area of Toronto. The school has been serving the Daystrom community since its opening in 1959. The Daystrom Family Resource Centre was added in 1987 and is becoming an integral part of Daystrom P.S. life. Presently, Daystrom has approximately 500 students. We are very proud to offer a structured, well-balanced and inclusive curriculum for students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 5, as well as a special program for students with specific learning needs as well as those with special kindergarten needs.
Tribes
Daystrom is a Tribes trained school. Our students participate in Tribes Learning Communities. The clear purpose of the Tribes process is to assure the healthy development of every child so that each one has the knowledge, skills and resiliency to be successful in a rapidly changing world.

Our goal at Daystrom Public School is to provide all students with a caring environment where high learning expectations, appropriate academic achievement and behaviour standards are encouraged. Nutritional Program
Our nutritional program currently provides a healthy snack everyday to our primary classes. A concentration of fruits, vegetables and dairy products are distributed by a snack coordinator and volunteers.
Toronto Schools on the Move
As a member of the Toronto Schools on the Move we support a healthy active environment. Our students are actively involved in a variety of sports events and clubs. We have a fitness club, floor hockey house league, running club, soccer house league just to name a few. Our grade 5 boys were Cross Country City Champions for 2009.
Parent and Community Involvement
Our School Council plays an important and supportive role with school endeavours, specifically in the areas of special events and fundraising. Parent volunteers assist both students and staff in the classroom, library, and during special events. We collaborate with Doorsteps Neighbourhood Services which is located in our building.
Technology
At Daystrom, technology plays an important role in our classrooms. Many of our classrooms have SMART Boards. Using the SMART board software, teachers can record each step of a lesson for students to review. Research indicates that using a SMART board supports both differentiated learning and universal design for learning.

Staff inspire students to excel to their fullest potentials. Parent and Community Engagement
Our School Advisory Council is vibrant and engages parents in topics and workshops that meet the needs of our parent and student body. Parents are actively engaged in school events and are always willing to volunteer their time to help our students. Parents' input are incorporated in our School Improvement plan where applicable to improve student achievement and well-being. Parent voices and suggestions are always welcome to enhance learning at Daystrom.
