Firgrove Public School is proud to be one of the first Model Schools For Inner Cities in the Toronto District School Board. The school culture reflects the essential components of the Model School Vision which encompass equity, well-being, inclusiveness, community and achievement. Firgrove Public School is a large school serving about 500 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 children. We are located on the south side of Firgrove Crescent, just west of Jane Street in the northwest section of Toronto.
Diversity
We serve the families of approximately 500 students speak over 27 different languages. A large percentage of our students or their parents have immigrated into Canada. Firgrove Public School offers an optional Montessori program at K-3 grade levels. We have a Family Literacy Center and a Satellite Childcare Centre. At Firgrove we are proud of our well trained, diverse and highly dedicated staff.

We believe that a focus in developing literacy and mathematics will provide our children with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure success in further education. We have a highly effective Support Team that reviews student progress and provides support, including Special Education and English Language Learners. Nutrition Programs
Working in collaboration with the Toronto Foundation for Student Success and the Toronto Children's Breakfast Club, Firgrove PS. is able to offer nutritional breakfast, snacks and lunch programs daily in accordance with Canada's Food Guide. Our dedicated nutrition program coordinators and the parent volunteers have led to the success of these programs.
International Languages
Our school offers the International Languages Elementary Program on Wednesdays after school in Vietnamese, Mandarin, Spanish, Somalian and Tamil. This program is designed to give students the opportunity to learn additional languages, other than English and French, and to learn about and appreciate other traditions, customs and cultures.
The Arts
Firgrove students are given the opportunity to develop the ability to think creatively and critically through the study of music, drama and dance and visual arts. Our students have the opportunity to participate in such enriching activities as the Regent Park Music Program, MSteel Pan Orch., Hammer Band, African drumming and choir.
Assistive Technology
To meet the needs of our diverse learners we have technology such as SMARTboards, iPads, Surface Tablets, Mobile Computers and digital overheads. Our computers are equipped with software such as Read and Write Gold to help our students to accommodate the needs of our students.

Student Life - Where You Belong
At Firgrove PS., students have many opportunities to participate in a wide range of athletic activities such as basketball, softball, volleyball, cross country running, soccer and track and field. Among our skilled staff are artists, athletes and coaches who share their talents generously with their students. Other activities include violin lessons, cooking classes, STEM club, Knitting club, Girls Club, P.A.L.S. Program, Computer Coding Club, steel pans, African drumming and many more.
What Sets Us Apart
Frequent and regular communication between home and school is extremely important. We value the opportunity for parents to express their views so that we can address their concerns in many ways. Unique community engagement programs such as our Home and School Learning meetings enable the school and community to collaborate effectively. The school planner provides a convenient method for daily communication. Parent/teacher conferences, emails, telephone calls, newsletters, curriculum nights, and School Council meetings all provide channels for sharing information. Firgrove students wear white tops and navy blue bottoms as part of the school dress code. The Code of Behaviour includes the expectations that students, parents, and staff work together to promote respect for people and property, to implement health and safety rules, and to encourage co-operation with others. Students are encouraged to come to school regularly, on time, and be prepared to learn. We believe that consequences for inappropriate behaviour should be immediate, meaningful, and fair.
Parent and Community Engagement
At Firgrove we are proud of our highly involved school council. Parents are highly involved in all aspects in the school including pizza lunches, nutrition programs and volunteering in the classrooms. To meet the needs of our diverse learners we partner with theYork University, Faculty of Education, Humber College Early Childhood Education program, and Westview CI. Firgrove's school community liaise with various community agencies and facilities including Hincks-Dellcrest Children's Centre, Surrey Place, Toronto Police 31 Division, Jamaican Canadian Association, Jane Finch Community Ministry, Delta Childcare, Parks and Recreation, Toronto Foundation for Student Success and the Metro Toronto Housing Authority.
