Mathematics
We offer a comprehensive mathematics program for everyone. As technology is becoming an integral part of our lives, ACCI is committed to embedding technology-based learning into the delivery of mathematics curriculum. Our school is the TDSB site for Leading and Learning through Technology. As well, the EMC2 (Enriched Mathematics at Albert Campbell) program, beginning in Grade 9, provides opportunities for students to acquire advanced standing at universities. This year, 86% of our Academic and 61% of our Applied students are at or above the provincial standard (level 3 and 4) after completing the EQAO Mathematics test.
Science
We emphasize hands-on, student-centred, inquiry-based learning. Our students compete in a variety of contests. Science offers a Robotics club, a special award winner at their last competition; a science outreach team called ATOMS (A Team of Mad Scientists); and ES@C, our Environmental Science Club.
Test Drive Potential Careers in Coop
Our extensive co-operative education program gives students the opportunity to build their resumes, earn credits, and gain valuable hands-on experience. The community partnerships that have been built are extensive and include all areas of student interest. Students can earn 2, 3, or 4 credits, as well as dual credits in our SHSM and bridge to college programs.
Literacy
We believe that effective literacy skills are essential for success. Literacy is emphasized across the curriculum. Last year, our Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test success rate was 85% ,which was above the provincial average. Outside of class, students can write for our newspaper, or join our debate team and compete in prestigious university tournaments.
Social Studies
The rich offerings in this area are expanding. As well as courses in history, politics, world issues, sociology, geography, family studies, and economics, students have the opportunity to expand their learning outside of the classroom. Student Life - Where You Belong
The Student Administrative Council (SAC) is Albert Campbell's elected student council responsible for coordinating all clubs and student-sponsored activities in the school. The SAC brings many fun-filled events to the students each year. The year begins with Grade 9 Orientation, a joint venture of all our other student service groups: Athletic Council, Student in Action, and Ambassadors. September also brings the our first assembly focussing Character Education. Throughout the year, there are monthly Spirit Days when activities are held in the Forum during the lunch period. There are two Spirit Weeks, one in November and one in May, where daily fun and games fill the Forum. December brings the Semi-Formal held at a local banquet hall, as well as the ever popular Christmas Door Decorating Contest. Graduating students look forward to the Formal held in late May or early June. Our year culminates with the annual Big Event Carnival, the Farewell Assembly and the Grad Brunch. By participating in SAC events, students pick up points for one of the eight Houses to which they belong. The House of the Year award is presented in June.
