Agincourt Junior Public School is an architectural landmark located on Lockie Avenue near Midland and Sheppard Avenues. When the school first opened in 1914, it consisted of four classrooms from Grades 1 to 12. With two additions over the years, we now have eight classrooms with grades K-6, a library/resource centre and two portables. This historic building has a unique authenticity and charm ideal for meeting the needs of our dynamic community, which includes approximately 230 students representing many different language groups and cultures.
Technology
We now have SmartBoard technology in all of our classrooms, making this technology available to all students from K-6. Smart Boards are an innovative, interactive teaching tool for students and teachers. Students use the SmartBoard to plan, research, interpret and analyze information from lessons and web-sites. Teachers create interesting and interactive lesson using the SmartBoard tools. Everyone benefits from first learning how to use the SmartBoard.
Eco School
Agincourt Junior Public School has proudly been certified as a Gold EcoSchool for the last three years. This amazing accomplishment was achieved through the dedication of our staff and students. We've planted new trees on school property, prioritized recycling, reduced photocopying, conducted park clean-ups and focused on energy conservation. And the establishment of an EcoSquad, comprised of teachers and students from grades 3 to 6, ensures that we maintain a high level of commitment to the environment.
More Information About Agincourt Junior Public School
Literacy
Formal reading and writing instruction begins in Kindergarten. Levelled books and Developmental Reading Assessments are an important part of our literacy program. Special Education and English as a Second Language are in place to serve children with special needs. All students are expected to reflect on their areas of growth and set goals for improvement.
Numeracy
Math manipulatives, the Nelson math program and the use of computer software enhance our hands on approach to mathematical investigation and problem solving. Our focus is on a balanced delivery of the five strands (Number Sense and Numeration, Measurement, Geometry and Spatial Sense, Pattering and Algebra, Data Management and Probability) in the Ontario Curriculum.
Character Education
The promotion of harmonious relationships among different linguistic and cultural groups is a priority. Collaborative learning, problem solving and conflict resolution are part of the daily program. Through monthly Character Education assemblies students are exposed to, reminded of and celebrated for exhibiting positive character traits.
The Arts
Agincourt Jr. believes strongly in the power of education through the arts. All students in grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 take recorder lessons during school time. We also offer opportunities for students to join and sing in the primary or junior choirs. All children in grades 5 and 6 can join the band or string groups. We also continue to have a Junior Recorder club.

Agincourt Jr. is a small school with a family atmosphere. Parents, staff and students work closely to set high expectations for academic achievement and courteous behaviour. We are an inclusive community school with a wide range of co-curricular programs; Music, Drama, Dance, French Club, Eco-Squad, Folk Dance and Computer Studies. We encourage students to participate in these programs during and after school to discover unique experiences.
What Sets Us Apart
We are very pleased with the performance of our students in Literacy and Mathematics reviews over the past six years. Our EQAO scores are significantly above provincial and board averages. The factors for this success, we believe, stem from effective teaching practices, ongoing professional development, a focus on early literacy and mathematics, Board and Ministry initiatives, the contribution of volunteers and strong support from families.
Parent and Community Engagement
Agincourt Jr. is proud to have forged strong ties with the following Community Partners: Agincourt Community Services Association, Canada Trust Friends of the Environment, Agincourt Public Library, The International Coastal Clean Up, Legion Poppy Sales, Terry Fox Foundation and the Toronto Police Services. We have a vibrant and active School Council who fundraise for school initiatives. We also have several regular parent volunteers who assist in the classrooms, in the library, for special events and on excursions. We appreciate our partnerships with Niagara University Teacher Candidates, Ryerson Nursing and ECE Students and York University Psychology Department.
