Iroquois Junior Public School is a Kindergarten to Grade 6 school located in the Iroquois Community near Finch Avenue and Huntingwood Drive. Iroquois opened to the community in 1970. The school population is approximately 300 students and is diverse with a very large percentage of our students speaking languages other than English at home. Our school is committed to helping every child reach their full potential and highest level of achievement. We provide a learning environment that encourages and supports the development of academic skills, knowledge and achievement, the continual growth of self-esteem and responsibility, and the demonstration of respect and cooperation.
Our School Focus
We recognize the diverse learning needs of our students and strive to meet their wide range of needs and interests. We continue to adopt a cross curricular approach to teaching our students Literacy skills through subject specific areas such as Science and Social Studies. Our staff plan learning for students that promotes the use of higher level thinking skills and encourages them to look beyond the literal meaning of texts while making connections to everyday experiences in all aspects of the curriculum. At Iroquois we provide an inclusive environment that promotes and supports a safe and welcoming learning environment.

Meeting The Needs Of All Students
We believe that all students can learn and we are committed to helping every student reach their highest potential. Our teachers work in collaborative teams to plan, assess student strengths and needs, and to deliver curriculum. Our Literacy and Numeracy Resource Rooms are continually expanded to support teachers and students in their learning.
The Arts At Iroquois
The students at Iroquois are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved in various musical activities. We have Primary/Junior choirs as well as a Grade 5-6 Band. Through Teambuilding Activities students have an opportunity to have extended participation in drama, gardening and variety of visual arts and crafts.
Learning With Technology
Our children from kindergarten to Grade 6 incorporate technology as a daily part of learning. Throughout the school, there are a variety of technology options, including: interactive whiteboards, laptops and iPads. Learning to "code" and robotics is an integral part of the curriculum for Grade 4 students.
School Spirit Through Houseleague
All students at Iroquois have the opportunity to participate in our houseleague program which is designed to include everyone as well as foster school spirit and ensure success. Every student at Iroquois is assigned to a house and is encouraged to participate in house league activities.

Student Life - Where You Belong
The staff at Iroquois Junior Public School strives to provide a wide variety of options for students both inside and outside of the classroom. Their energy and commitment allows them to offer a multitude of experiences through participation in teams and clubs. Students can be part of activities, clubs and teams such as: volleyball, skipping, cross country, slo-pitch, chess, band and choirs. Student leadership is encouraged and supported throughout the school. Students are provided with many opportunities to develop their leadership skills and their interpersonal skills through the following activities; kindergarten helpers, office helpers, lunchroom monitors, reading buddies, houseleague team leaders and the Grade 5/6 Student Leadership Council.

Iroquois Junior Public School is a small school with a supportive and involved community. The staff is dedicated and committed to delivering the best possible programs to the students. The teachers strive to engage all students in meaningful learning activities that enable them to connect and apply their learning to real life situations. Staff routinely engage in collaborative planning to establish and deliver programs that are interesting and relevant to all students. We focus our instruction in Literacy around delivering all components of a Comprehensive Literacy Program and have made it a priority to increase the resources in our Literacy Resource Room to support teachers and students. In Mathematics our students are learning through a problem solving approach and using the three part lesson as the framework for learning. We know the importance of parent involvement and host a variety of parent information evenings. We also have a community partnership with Aisling Discoveries to deliver parenting workshops.
Parent and Community Engagement
Iroquois is actively involved with a variety of community agencies and programs. As a school we work with Agincourt Community Services to participate in an Annual Food Drive. Parent volunteers are valued members of our community and assist students and teachers in classrooms, in our Library Resource Centre and on excursions. Students and teachers work together to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Our student safety patrollers work closely with the Community Liaison Police Officer from Toronto Police Services. We are also planning several parenting workshops, in partnership with Aisling Discoveries.
