School History
With the increase in the Catholic population in Orangeville during the 1950's, demand grew for a local Catholic elementary school. After being approached by parents, Fr. Edward (Ted) Mahoney, pastor of St. Peter Church, as St. Timothy was then known, established a separate school board. Classes began in 1961 in temporary quarters for some eighty students, three teachers, and the principal. A four-classroom structure was completed in 1962 at 46 Dawson Road, and Archbishop Pocock of Toronto blessed St. Peter Elementary School on Sunday, May 27, 1962. By the mid-1960s the school served more than 150 students. Over its fifty year history, the physical plant has undergone five additions and upgrades to better serve the local Catholic community. Today, the school has about 300 students and its boundaries include the towns of Caledon and Alton. St. Peter Catholic School continues to promote excellence, stewardship and responsible citizenship through its support of parish endeavours and community outreach projects.
