Lisgar Elementary School is a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school that serves the community on the east mountain in Hamilton within the area defined by Mohawk Road, Upper Ottawa, North of the Linc and west of the Mountain Brow. The community is made up of approximately 21 percent ESL/ELL families both new to Canada and speaking another language at home. The school was built in 1963 and opened in 1964. Lisgar was originally built as a Kindergarten to Grade 5 school. In September 2003, after the closing of Hampton Heights Middle School, Lisgar became a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school. Lisgar is an inclusive community focused on providing an environment where students can strive to reach their full potential. A full day kindergarten program is provided where students attend every day.
Lisgar is a neighbourhood in south Hamilton. The community is centred on a large park and schools at the heart of the neighbourhood. While the Lisgar area is mostly residential, there is some shopping available along Upper Canada Street.
