Evaluating HoodQ

Where do you get your data - and is it current and accurate?

Our data is sourced from both open data offered by government agencies and highly respected external data sources, and then it is hand-curated by research professionals to make sure it's as complete, comprehensive, and up-to-date as possible. HoodQ data is data you can trust – it comes from people, not machines.

Why should I use HoodQ instead of gathering neighborhood information myself?

HoodQ saves you a lot of time, and you don’t need to be a researcher, a designer, or have any technical skills in order to give your clients beautiful, personalized neighborhood marketing reports, for any address in any neighbourhood. Information that could take hours to gather for each home is instantly prepared for you, so you can focus on what you do best – selling homes and making your clients happy.

Changes to my profile (new photo, etc) are not showing up on my reports

Once you edit your account, you can type in any NEW address that you've not searched before, and your profile changes (photo, etc.) will appear on the reports.

However, if you have previously entered an address, there is a waiting period of a few hours for previously searched addresses to appear with your new information.

What is the geographic distance covered in the reports?

Our distances are calculated "as the crow flies" - on a point-to-point basis rather than by a driving or walking route. The geographic distance covered varies by the type of data source:

  • For Schools, it is 2.5 miles/4km from the specific address, or whatever attendance zone is applicable
  • For Parks, it is 3.1 miles/5km
  • For Transit, it is 1.25 miles/2km
  • For Safety, it is 3.1 miles/5km
  • For Convenience, it’s the nearest 2 locations of each type - grocery stores, gas stations, and pharmacies

Why isn’t a nearby location (school, park, etc) included in my report?

Our report-creating algorithms include only the very closest places to each home, to keep our reports hyper-local. Even nearby locations can be excluded if there are enough places of that type which are closer. For example, if Park ABC is 0.6 miles away, but there are 5 parks under 0.5 miles away, Park ABC won't make the cut.

Public schools are a special case. We preferentially include the public schools with assigned attendance zones that apply to an address, because these are of interest to the highest percentage of homebuyers. If no attendance zones apply, the selection of schools to include is purely by distance from the home.

If neither of these cases apply, it could be that the data source does not currently include this location. When the data source updates, we’ll update as well.
